General Hospital’ (GH) Spoilers reveal that Kelly Monaco, who played Sam McCall on GH, has finally spoken out about her firing. It looks like it’s what we both suspected and feared.
‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: The Show Sidelined Kelly And Sam
The show sidelined Kelly after her very vocal support of Billy Miller, who played Drew Quartermaine, now played by Cameron Mathison, and Jason Morgan, now played by Steve Burton.
Many fans support Monaco, but others complain that her character is “monotone” and “boring,” which is an unfair assessment.
Greg Vaugn, who once played Lucky Spencer on GH and now plays Eric Brady on Days of Our Lives, wrote a wonderful Instagram message supporting his former leading lady.
A fan said,
“Terrible they fired Kelly, what a terrible thing to do. What’s their problem?”
Another GH fan wrote,
“What do you got concrete in your head? She wasn’t fired. She didn’t take the pay cut, so she had to leave,”
Which we know is BS.
Soap Opera Network and Kelly have responded to these bogus claims by clarifying that Monaco took the pay cut.
Another soap fan said,
“So what if she was a fan favorite? She’s not that great an actress! She is monotone, had no primary role, and just boring.”
Kelly responded to the social media post,
“No primary role? Do your homework. When Billy Miller was fired, Sam’s storyline stopped. Stripping Sam of every characteristic she had. Something I worked for decades to build. Slowly dismantling her, into a character I did not recognize, let alone the audience. Call it what you will….retaliation at its finest. I will give a proper statement. The truth will set you free.”
‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: “JaSam” Had A HUGE Following
Monaco will soon “spill the tea.” To that, we say, good for her. Kelly played Livvie Lock on the GH spinoff Port Charles from 1999 until the soap’s cancellation in 2003.
All the networks pursued Kelly to join their soap. She had her pick of the litter. The executive producer of GH, Frank Valentini, was the most aggressive in trying to get Monaco on the show. Still, ultimately, she went with General Hospital because she was a huge fan of the show.
Her character, Sam, arrived in Port Charles in October 2003 and went on to become one half of the super couple, “JaSam” (Sam and Jason). The pair had several adventures together, and Sam became a fan favorite.
Burton had left the show for some time, and Billy Miller assumed the role of Jason Morgan. When Steve Burton returned, Miller suddenly became “Drew Cain.”
We don’t know the whole story, but Monaco published on social media a couple of weeks ago, paying tribute to Billy Miller on September 15, the anniversary of his passing, and said she would tell “their story” when the time was right.
No matter what caused the show to tank Sam’s writing, the former Playboy playmate admitted that the show sidelined her as a form of retaliation.
And the fans blame Monaco, which the show most definitely knew they would do. The truth about Kelly’s firing will likely be far juicier than any soap storyline a head writer could ever hope to pen.
