As the Brown family has fallen apart on national TV Sister Wives fans have taken to social media to share their dislike for Christine & Janelle Brown. It’s all about their treatment of Meri Brown.
When it comes to any relationship split in the world of reality TV, fans take sides. That is natural, and those sides are based on the information at hand. While many fans support the idea of Christine & Janelle Brown leaving Kody, others are not on their side. It isn’t that they have left the family, but about their treatment of other members of the family. More specifically, it is about their treatment of Meri.
Breaking Down the Sister Wives Exit Timeline
Christine Brown was the first of the three wives to leave Kody. This was her decision, and while Janelle tried to support her, it was clear that this hurt the entire family. However, Christine could not continue in the relationship that she had with Kody. Fans are thrilled Christine has found her self professed soul mate in David Woolley. The two recently wed and fans will get to see the wedding televised on TLC.
Then Janelle followed suit. Season 17 really wore on Janelle’s marriage. Covid took it’s toll on Janelle’s kids with their father. The final nail was the nasty shouting match with Kody in Season 18, that seemed to be her tipping point to finally give up on this plural marriage. She has realized that the marriage to Kody is not what it was and Kody is defintely not the same man she married. She has finally cut ties with him and travels a lot with her sister wife Christine. While Christine has moved on with a new husband Janelle is not looking for a man just yet.
Then came Meri. She has always been against the idea of leaving Kody, she has been married to him 30 years plus. Meri has always made it very clear that she wanted the plural family to work after all she grew up in polygamy having 27 siblings and felt strongly in her roots. Meri & Kody’s split happened in January 2023, and she took to social media with Kody to announce the decision to separate. Sister Wives viewers are just seeing it play out on Season 18.
Fans Angry at Christine & Janelle Brown Over Meri
Naturally, fans take sides. One fan on Reddit shared their dislike for the first two Brown women to leave over their treatment of Meri. That post went on to say that Kody was also at fault in his treatment of Meri. Over the years, Meri, who was the first wife, invited the others into her family. She made sacrifices to make plural marriage work, and some fans believe that the other wives should be more grateful to her for that than they show they are.

- “Christine lying and pretending how great plural marriage was even though she admitted that she was jealous AF.
- “Janelle who was and is passive-agressieve AF but who never tried to understand Meri’s point of view or reached out to her to make it work (until she needed it herself and asked Meri to go to therapy with her, after which she was still complaining that she was dreading it so much).”

The fans shared how the other wives often invalidated Meri’s feelings. One example was when Meri felt like an empty nester when her child went off to college. Robyn made a point that there were other children in the family to raise, overlooking Meri’s feelings at her own child leaving the house.
Another fan touched on how Meri was the reason Sister Wives was a success. She allowed her struggle with infertility to be “exploited” for the sake of the series, and she was deemed selfish for not allowing people to use her lounge as a thoroughfare. Nobody is saying Meri is perfect, but that she has had the raw end of the deal and now lost the family that she helped to create.
