Jonathan Jackson on Why Genie Francis Lured Him Back to GH

General Hospital spoilers reveal veteran actor Jonathan Jackson is returning to the long-running ABC Soap GH this summer!

This marks Jackson’s first return as GH Lucky Spencer since 2015, and fans are especially excited because it means a reunion with his on-screen mother, Laura Spencer, played by Genie Francis.

All About Lucky Spencer

Jackson originated the role of Lucky back in 1993, portraying the troubled yet noble son of the show’s supercouple, Luke and Laura Spencer (played by Anthony Geary and Genie Francis).

Interestingly, Jackson’s previous returns haven’t offered much opportunity for interaction with Francis.

Most of his prior scenes were filmed when he was a teenager.

Jonathan Jackson Admits Genie Francis Was A Cheerleader For His Return

Jackson himself acknowledges this gap. He recently spoke on the podcast “The Daily Drama” hosted by his General Hospital co-star Steve Burton.

Jackson revealed that Genie Francis was a “huge cheerleader” for his return, and he expressed his own excitement about finally getting to share substantial scenes with her.

“I know you have a huge cheerleader in Genie Francis,” Burton said to Jackson during the podcast. “I’m excited… to see you guys work together again after so many years.” Jackson echoed this sentiment, stating, “But Genie wasn’t there for those couple years… I always thought, ‘Man, I would love to be able to really get a chance to work with her again.’ That definitely came into play.”

While details about General Hospital Lucky’s storyline remain under wraps, his return promises a chance to explore the complex mother-son dynamic between him and Laura.

This is something both actors and fans have been waiting for for a long time. Jackson’s return is expected to be a “long run,” so viewers can look forward to seeing Lucky Spencer back in Port Charles and reconnecting with his TV mom.

Be sure to catch up on everything happening with GH right now.
