‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: Why Maura West Makes Us LOVE Ava Jerome-Whether We Like Her Or Not

‘General Hospital’ (GH) spoilers confirm what everyone already knows. Maura West is a genius and slays as Ava Jerome. She makes us love Ava whether we like her or not.

‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: Ava Has Become The Villian In Town

Ava has taken a villainous turn in the past few months and has become a bit wicked. She discovered that Sonny Corinthos’s (Maurice Benard) medication had been tampered with, but she chose to keep Sonny in the dark about it for some unexplained reason.

Ava going after Sonny

It looked like the show may explore the idea of a Sonny and Ava pairing, which would have been the equivalent of striking gold.

However, they went in another direction, making Ava the mischievous  “baddie” on the soap. Her sudden pivot from the vivacious and fun bad girl you want to have a martini with to someone you’d like to avoid.

But West is so good at her role that we cannot help but secretly adore her.

Granted, she’s done some despicable deeds, but she is always entertaining to watch.

The writers have put Ava in a corner with little hope for redemption, but West makes Ava one of the most compelling and intriguing characters in Port Charles, even with subpar material to work with.

Ava isolated Sonny from his family and the people who care about him. She played her former BFF, Nina Reeves (Cynthia Watros), and essentially tricked her into signing divorce papers, ending her marriage to Sonny.

But even then, we hoped at least a steamy hook-up would be in the cards for Ava and the dimpled don.

Alas, he recently kicked her out of his penthouse after finding out from Kristina Corinthos-Davis (Kate Mansi) that Ava was responsible for Alexis Davis (Nancy Lee Grahn) losing her law license.

‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: Maura West Can Even ROCK Subpar Material

When Alexis confronted her, West made this poorly written scene fun to watch. She made Ava’s explanation as to why she did it believable.

The writers threw an odd and perplexing curveball with that one, but West played it perfectly.

This past week, Ava hit a new low. She released a recording of Natalia Rogers Rameriz (Eva LaRue) talking negatively about her daughter, Allison Rogers’s (aka Blaze, played by Jacqueline Grace Lopez) relationship with Kristina.

She pretty much dissed the whole LGBTQ community.

But for Ava’s part, she exposed the couple and Blaze, who still hadn’t publicly come out. She put Blaze and Kristina’s careers in jeopardy to show the world that Sonny’s new girlfriend, Natalia, was a bigot. It was selfish and careless.

That being said, West’s performance was flawless. Even though it makes zero sense that Ava released the recording without the logical thought that Natalia would remember the conversation and everyone would find out what she did, West nailed her scenes beautifully.

Watching Maura West’s portrayal of Ava Jerome is like watching an old-school Hollywood actress like Grace Kelly or Natalie Wood at work, with a martini glass always in her hand, always elegantly dressed, with a fabulously catty attitude and a naughty sparkle in her eyes.

The recent turn Ava has taken from almost redeemable to b***h on wheels is never a bore because Maura West is simply perfect.
