Good News: Michael E. Knight stuns viewers with his shocking return to General Hospital!
It’s been quite a while since he left, but fans can look forward to seeing Michael E. Knight back on General Hospital as Martin Grey this week! The former All My Children star joined the cast back in September 2019 and played the recurring role until February 2024 when Martin left town after splitting up with Lucy.
Turns out that the exit was always meant to be temporary, though it wasn’t actually meant to be this long. “It was supposed to be three months,” Knight revealed to Soap Opera Digest.
Unfortunately with the multiple changes to the GH headwriting teams, the shifting storylines meant Martin’s potential return was also in flux.
Not that the actor minded, given that his original appearance on GH was meant to be a short-term gig in order to meet his health insurance requirement.
“I will love Frank [Valentini, GH’s executive producer] for the rest of my life for doing what he did because four days turned into four years,” Knight confided. “
So, to me, I already had the brass ring in my pocket. I wasn’t going to complain about four days turning into four years! I’m one grateful monkey, you know what I mean?”
But with Chris Van Etten back as co-headwriter, working alongside Elizabeth Korte, the character of Martin was once again needed on the canvas for their storylines.
Unfortunately, Knight wouldn’t divulge any details of what brings Martin back to Port Charles, given the family drama going on with Laura trying to find Lucky to save Lulu’s life, it’s only right that Martin be there for his sister in her time of need.
(Also, there’s always a need for slightly shady lawyers in town!)
“People used to ask me, ‘Well what’s your role on General Hospital?’” Knight teased. “And I would say, ‘It’s kind of like paprika.
You don’t use it a lot but you use it to sort of spice things up.’”
Stay tuned to GH to see how Martin’s return shakes things up and let us know how you feel about his comeback in the comments below!
