‘General Hospital’ Star Ryan Carnes Breaks Silence About New Role
Ryan Carnes has been playing Lucas Jones on General Hospital off and on since 2004. Now he has a new role he’s excited to share with fans. Keep reading for all the details.
General Hospital Star Ryan Carnes Breaks Silence About New Role
Ryan Carnes broke into acting when he was cast as Lucas Jones on General Hospital. He briefly played the role in 2004 and returned in 2014 until 2020. He’s also had roles on Desperate Housewives and the Clint Eastwood movie Letters From Iwo Jima.
Soap Opera Digest caught up with the former soap star to talk about his latest role. He plays Tristan Cole in The Air He Breathes. The movie is based on the best-selling 2015 novel by Brittainy Cherry. Kelcie Stranahan plays Elizabeth in the flick.
The two characters are both mourning losing their spouses and initially use each other to grieve but their relationship evolves to something more.
According to Ryan Carnes, the role is perfect for him and he can’t wait for fans to see it.
“I like characters who feel deeply. And because I have suffered some significant loss in my life, I really could relate. It seemed like a beautiful story I wanted to be a part of telling.”
He admitted to SOD that he listened to the audiobook multiple times to prepare for the role. Ryan Carnes added that playing Tristan helped him work through some of his own trauma.
“Sometimes, as artists or actors, we’re given gifts in order to be able to revisit some of our own unprocessed emotions and [this project] ended up being that for me. I think even if viewers haven’t read the book, they are going to be able to connect to what these characters are going through because loss is universal of the human condition.”
The Air He Breathes premiered on streaming service Passionflix on August 22.
Will Lucas Return To Port Charles After Death In The Family?
The character of Lucas Jones has been played by over five different actors over the years. But the only one fans accept as Lucas is Ryan Carnes. He reprised the role earlier this year when the show paid tribute to actress Jackie Zeman, who played Lucas’ adoptive mother, Bobbie Jones.
Lucas’ bio dad is crime boss Julian Jerome, played by William deVry. It was revealed in 2013 that Julian was actually alive, though he’s since been killed off again. Lucas was mentioned on the show regarding a DNA test and his half-sister Sam.
But now Sam is reportedly being killed off. Could Ryan Carnes reprise his role if Lucas returns to town for the funeral? The show has yet to reveal any plans or even confirm the news that Kelly Monaco is on the way out.
