General Hospital’s James Patrick Stuart Suffers A Deep Loss

General Hospital star James Patrick Stuart took to social media to share a deeply personal family tragedy. Through his mother-in-law’s death, he spread awareness for pancreatic cancer, and his grief was shared by his fans.

He Stood Strong During a Tough Time

James Patrick Stuart, whose GH alter ego Valentin Cassadine is stirring up trouble in Port Charles as the head of the Pikeman organization, shared some tragic family news on X, formerly Twitter.

On July 11, he wrote, “My mother-in-law, Barbara, has passed away after a painful fight with Pancreatic Cancer. She did not want a service but instead wanted us to give the Arroyo Grande Hospital Foundation for further care of others. If you are so inclined. -JPS”

One fan responded, “I’m so sorry for your loss 😢 my boyfriend just passed away from cancer on Tuesday night,” while Stuart kindly replied, “Thank you Jessica. I’m sorry for yours.”

Similarly, another fan wrote, “Wow! My deepest condolences to you and your family. We lost my Mom in law to cancer too. Totally sucks. Didn’t even have time to say goodbye respectfully. We miss her so much ❤️😭💔❤️” And he again responded simply, “Thank you Gloria.”

The outpouring of condolences and love from his followers was overwhelming. Many could relate to the cancer touching someone in their lives.

One follower’s response spoke for many by stating, “I am so very sorry for your loss, James. May your beloved mother-in-law Barbara rest in peace, and may happy memories of her bring much comfort to all who love her.

I send great big warm comforting hugs to your family.” (Find out what Stuart’s favorite paid role is.)

Stuart Truly Loved His In-Laws

Stuart’s post also had a link to a page on the Arroyo Grande Community Hospital Foundation’s website, which stated, “Please help us honor the memory of our Mom, Barbara Stilwell, by making a contribution to her Day of Hope fundraiser and sharing this page with your family and friends.

Every dollar raised stays in our community, benefiting cancer programs and supporting services for patients and families!” And then a loving quote by his wife Jocelyn Stillwell’s late mom profoundly stated, “‘I wish they would do less rocket launches from Vandenberg and instead use the money for pancreatic cancer research!’ – Barbara Stilwell”

In 2016, Stuart had similarly posted to Facebook when Jocelyn’s father, John Stilwell, died at age 78. “He was the other love in the life of my beautiful wife, Jocelyn.

He LOVED planes!” He wrote, further describing how John was an airline maintenance worker who retired after the events of 9/11, and enjoyed visiting his film and TV show productions.

He capped it off with, “God bless you John. Thank you for loving my children. Please watch over us as long as you want to. Your spirit will forever be welcome in my house.”
